St. Joseph, Missouri - John O. Degenhardt (Rock), 84, St. Joseph, MO died Saturday September 4, 2010 at his home, surrounded by his family. Born July 21, 1926 in Chicago, IL., he lived in St. Joseph for the past 42 years. John was employed in the automobile business for many years and was the former owner of Auto World in St. Joseph. John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. John was preceded in death by his wife Mary R. Degenhardt and a son Hugh Degenhardt. Survivors include four daughters, Lynn Fender, Jamesport MO, Kim Guthrie, Newton IA, Jill Sigrist, Wathena, KS, Lori Rone, Olathe KS; and a son, John Degenhardt Jr., Covington GA; his grandchildren, Kasie Long, Jessica Ehly, Tyler Sigrist, Beau Sigrist, Molly Degenhardt, Taylor Rone, Jackson Rone, and great-grandson Henry Long. John is also survived by a brother, Bill Degenhardt, CA, and his loving dog Blondie.
Service will be held in the Horigan Chapel at Mt. Olivet Cemetery on Tuesday Sept. 7, at 2:30 P.M. There is no scheduled visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ducks Unlimited in John’s name.
